SME Business Development Conference in Charlston SC

On May 6, Dr. Adam Porter, Executive Director of Fraunhofer USA Center for Experimental Software Engineering CESE, presented the center's competences and capabilities to business representatives of German-owned companies operating in the U.S.

Held in Charleston, South Carolina, the SME Business Development Conference, organized by the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Southern U.S., is an annual event held in the Palmetto State that encourages German companies to strengthen their contacts with government, service providers, academia as well as the region’s business community.

The presentation, “A Digital Dashboard for Training, Process Design, and Quality for a Small-Medium Enterprise,” was presented in cooperation with representatives from the South Carolina Council on Competitiveness, Clemson and Francis Marion Universities.  Dr. Porter’s remarks covered a recently completed project for the Bicycle Corporation of America, one of the country’s largest bike manufacturers.  In cooperation with university partners, Fraunhofer USA CESE researchers reviewed BCA’s manufacturing line workflow for optimization opportunities to speed production, developed a data collection and monitoring system to help reduce defects, and developed algorithms and systems to improve BCA’s employee onboarding and training capabilities.
