Fraunhofer CSE attended and exhibited at Greenbuild International Conference and Expo at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center from November 8, 2017 - November 10, 2017. Their booth was in the Intelligent Building & Connected Home section of the exhibition and featured the latest news and projects from CSE’s Building Energy Systems and Building Enclosures groups. On Friday, November 10, Fraunhofer CSE’s office building at 5 Channel Center street in Boston was featured in the Greenbuild’s Green Building Tours and CSE welcomes over 50 Greenbuild attendees to tour the building and learn about Living in a Material World

On October 6, team members of Fraunhofer CESE exhibited at the Regional Manufacturing Institute’s Manufacturing Day trade show in Baltimore. In this photo (pictured left to right, are Fraunhofer Gudjon Magnusson, Mikael Lindvall and Kristofer Thorlaksson), staff demonstrate CESE’s autonomous systems research and simulation expertise using car crash avoidance behaviors.  Fraunhofer CESE is targeting regional manufacturers to promote its systems and software engineering talents as well as it Industry 4.0 Assessment Tool to expand its industrial client base.

Fraunhofer CMB Intern, Philipp Ernst, works on an assigned real world project, giving him the opportunity to gain practical knowledge during his 6 month internship.

He recently joined the prestigious Internship program at CMB from Aachen Germany, where he studies industrial production of diagnostics at the RWTH Aachen University.

Once finished with his Master’s Degree, he intends to further extend his education with a Ph.D. in this field and feels that this internship will contribute to further his academic and future professional goals.

Fraunhofer CESE welcomes Dr. Pankesh Patel

Dr. Pankesh Patel Fraunhofer CESE Research Scientist

Fraunhofer CESE welcomes its newest staff member, Dr. Pankesh Patel.  

Pankesh began work in August as a Research Scientist and among his assignments, he will focus on implementation of Industry 4.0 techniques and methodologies in commercial environments. Prior to joining Fraunhofer, he served as a Senior Engineer for the Industrial Software System group at ABB Corporate Research-India.   

Pankesh’s research applies model software engineering techniques such as separation of concerns, abstractions to hide software complexity, and end-to-end system integration. In brief, his focus is building software development methodologies and tools to easily develop applications in the cross-section of software engineering, cyber-physical systems, and Internet of Things. 

With this research, he has published more than 30 research articles in prestigious events. He is frequently invited to speak as a panelist and key note at both academic and commercial conferences. Pankesh obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Paris VI and the French National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Automation in Paris, France.

Congrats to the Fraunhofer USA Center for Sustainable Energy Systems team for winning the DOE SunShot photo contentst for the category "University Research" showing CSE's solar simulator dark tunnel.

All submissions were judged by Simon Edelman, Chief Creative Officer for the U.S. Department of Energy, and Dennis Schroeder, a photographer at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Colorado who is a solar photography expert. SunShot Initiative Web Page

Fraunhofer CSE Welcomes New Research Fellow

Nathalie Wingartz joins CSE as a Behavioral Research Fellow.

Nathalie Wingartz joins CSE as a Behavioral Research Fellow. She previously was a Student Researcher at Fraunhofer IAO (Institute for Industrial Engineering) in Stuttgart, and before that at Fraunhofer IAT (Institute of Human Factors and Technology Management), also in Stuttgart. She is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Political and Social Research from Stuttgart University. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from Heinrich Heine University in Duesseldorf, and before that, studied Politics and Law at Westfaelische Wilhelms University in Muenster.
