Research Associate/Scientist Position in Protein Biochemistry

The Fraunhofer USA Center for Molecular Biotechnology in Newark, DE is seeking a highly motivated Ph.D level Protein Biochemist to work in the Protein Biochemistry group to assist in development, optimization, and trouble-shooting of scaleable downstream processes for targets from our plant-based expression platform. The Center focuses on the development of vaccines and therapeutics expressed in plants.

The position is for a bench level scientist who will fill an interdisciplinary role working on many aspects of the development process. Roles will include investigation of purification, characterization and platform processes where improvements can be implemented. Develop, research and implement new technologies/methodologies for Protein Biochemistry as well as possible transfer to our QC or GMP process facilities.  A solid understanding of protein chemistry, biochemistry, and protein analytical techniques are required. Knowledge of process unit operation principles would be a plus.

The selected candidate must have strong organizational skills, exceptional communication skills (both written and oral), and the ability to communicate across disciplines in either one-on-one or in group settings. The position requires strong leadership skills including delegation, decision making, team building, and the ability to work with all levels in the organization. The individual should be able to manage, motivate and assist in the development of junior employees.

A Ph.D. degree in Protein Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or in a related discipline with at least 3-5 years laboratory experience and a demonstrated background as described are required.
