William F.
Hartman is Vice President of Fraunhofer USA,
Inc. He manages the business of the
corporation, including guiding and promoting
the strategic development and growth of the
Fraunhofer Centers in the U.S., fostering
expanded cooperation between the Fraunhofer
Institutes in Germany and academic, state,
federal, and industrial partners in the
U.S., and providing administrative services
to the Centers.
Dr. Hartman
earned his Ph.D. from the Johns Hopkins
University (Baltimore, Maryland), where he
later served as Assistant Professor of
Mechanics and Materials Science. He has
extensive experience in the development and
management of technological businesses. As a
corporate executive, he has taken a lead
role in start-ups, development of funded
research, acquisitions, strategic planning,
relationships with universities and research
institutes, intellectual property
protection, technology transfer, and the
organization and direction of foreign
subsidiaries. He has served as a director
and officer of five technology companies,
including two start-up companies.
