Fraunhofer USA, Inc., performs applied research  under contract to government and industry with customers such as federal and state governments, multinational corporations as well as small to medium-sized companies. Fraunhofer’s research benefits society in many ways.

Fraunhofer USA is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft which has over 80 research units at more than 40 different locations throughout Germany.  A staff of 13,000 qualified scientists and engineers work with an annual research budget of €1.3 billion.  Each Fraunhofer USA research center is closely affiliated with at least one of the 57 Fraunhofer Institutes. They also cooperate closely with major universities.
